There’s a new thali in town, y’all. The front section of Tawa Foods is under new Nepalese ownership and is now Dhaulagiri Kitchen.
The beef momos are delicious too, although I do miss the curry-laced vegetarian ones made by the previous Nepalese lady.

If you’re looking for Mexican herbs like papalo, Mi Tierra Supermarket is the place to go. They also sell perfectly ripe avocados, stored away behind the refrigerated display for $1.50 each.
Now, just curious to know what those other two herbs in neighboring bin to the right are - any guesses?
Another good source for Mexican herbs is the El Poblano Farm stall at the Socrates Sculpture Park Farmer’s Market. Also spotted papalo there the other week!

M.Wells’ Dinette at MOMA PS1 may not be open quite yet, but that isn’t stopping them from serving some serious food at Warm-Ups on Saturdays throughout the summer.
Here’s a spread from this past weekend - Buffalo frog legs, head cheese sandwich, homemade chorizo sausage, and a pork belly taco.
Fellow Long Island City residents, remember to take advantage of free admission with your ID!

Tonight, at the Long Island City Community Board 2 meeting in the basement of St. Mary’s Church, supporters of Sarah Obraitis and Hugue Dufour (of M.Wells) stood up and gave passionate testimonials to convince the board to allow M.Wells Dinette to extend their liquor license past 6pm.
I couldn’t stay for the final verdict, but there was a strong representation of local residents who came to support the effort.  I particularly enjoyed the lady on the right, who had prepared a written speech that was several pages long.
