Some DeLiCiOuS new (vegetarian) options at Queens Comfort include the cauliflower gratin mac ‘n cheese with fontina and parmesan, and the fried BBQ tofu sandwich with siu haau sauce and crunchy Asian slaw (talk about bold flavors and fun textures)… http://www.queenscomfort.blogspot.com

The new menu at The Queens Kickshaw is so tenderly conceived and astonishingly delicious. From mini blue cheese knishes and baked cheddar horseradish ravioli, to stout ice cream and coffee macaron sandwiches and this decadent fontina cheesecake with blackberry hefeweizen sauce and cereal crumble.  They still have the awesome grilled cheese sandwiches and gourmet coffees, beer, and wine, but this menu supplement elevates things to a whole new level!  The Queens Kickshaw * 40-17 Broadway (1/2 block east of Steinway) * (718) 777-0913

These are so cute they make me want to cry.

Here’s East Elmhurst’s Blanca Narvaez and her totally endearing flowers and bouquets made of dehydrated fruit. There’s something about these colors and textures that makes me melt every time I see them. It’s a craft that comes from her native Colombia, which she wanted to bring over to Queens, NY.

This picture was from last Sunday’s Astoria Market, but she’ll also be at the Queens Taste 2012 tonight representing the Entrepreneurs Space. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch her at some point before Mother’s Day.

Have you ever seen chickpeas still in the pod? I don’t think I have until today at Apna Bazaar (7220 37th Ave)

The Queens Kickshaw has gained national recognition (in less than a year) for serving some of the country’s most incredible grown-up grilled cheese sandwiches, an eclectic array of craft beers and wines, and gourmet coffees & beverages (from V60 pour-over coffee to vinegar-cordial sodas called shrubs).  Pictured are three of my favorite items, the Gouda (on brioche with black bean hummus, guava jam, and pickled jalapeños), the Mac & Cheese (with cheddar, gruyere, smoked mozzarella, & french beans), and the miso-mustard pickles (with everything from white beets to quail eggs).  The Queens Kickshaw, 40-17 Broadway (a block from Steinway), Astoria; (718) 777-0913; http://thequeenskickshaw.com
