Be sure to ask about the brick oven pizza specials at Via Trenta (Italian for 30th Ave), like this fantastic rustic flatbread with garlic, truffle spread, mushrooms, fresh mozzarella, and basil.  And remember at lunch, even if you don’t order one of the weekday $10 pasta/panini/pizza specials (the margherita pizza is always one of the options), you still get soup or salad with your entree. Did you know Pita Pan serves a rather killer personal pizza? Their mozzarella sticks are some of the best around, too, served with a special house creamy tomato sauce. You can even order a pizza covered with gyro meat, a Greek pizza, or a delicious version of the Hawaiian with pineapple and ham.  Pita Pan | 37-15 30th Ave, Astoria | (718) 204-1633 | www.pitapanastoria.com

Chef Stephen Menna is experimenting with some pretty cool weekend specials at Tufino Pizzeria, like this cappellini cake—a breaded round of angel hair pasta tossed with ricotta, caciocavallo, and fior di latte cheeses, which is then deep-fried and served surrounded by a moat of creamy alfredo, all garnished with shavings of grana padano. Tufino Pizzeria Napoletana | 36-08 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria | 718-278-4800 | www.tufinopizzeria.com

I’d put this up against any “L&B” style slice in the city.

Always fun to discover new changes at DiWine… like this lobster and leek pizza… a brick oven pie accented with sherry cream sauce, asparagus, corn, tomatoes, and slices of manchego cheese.  I also enjoy that all wines are $9 a glass or $32 a bottle—allowing you to focus on the wine selection without debating which price to choose.  DiWine * 41-15  31st Ave, Astoria * (718) 777-1355 * www.diwineonline.com

Tomorrow marks the highly-anticipated grand opening of Tufino Pizzeria Napoletana on Ditmars.  Each pie has a unique story behind it, including Il Greco (pictured below) — a nod to the Greek history of the neighborhood.  WIth kalamata olives, oregano, fontina, and fior di latte, it gets a squeeze of fresh lemon before being served.  Soooooo delicious!  Tufino Pizzeria Napoletana | 36-08 Ditmars Boulevard, Astoria | (718) 278-4800 |www.tufinopizzeria.com

Antika Family Style Pizzeria finally opened on 30th Ave, serving classic Italian-American dishes (try the provolone-stuffed meatballs!) in Individual & Family portions, as well as several varieties of pizza (including brunch pizzas with fried eggs), like this “Old Fashioned Grandma Style Square Pizza” with San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, grana padano, pecorino, extra virgin olive oil, and oregano.  The kitchen is open til 11PM, but the bar and pizza oven stay open til 2AM.  Welcome to the neighborhood, Antika!  Antika Family Style Pizzeria * 36-08 30th Ave, Astoria * (718) 545-0555 * www.antikapizzeria.com

New Park Pizza is a favorite among locals and pizzaheads citywide. Though I’d long admired the neon here, I had never understood the allure of the pizza itself. Until last night, that is, when I ordered a slice well-done. That’s the ticket. 15671 Cross Bay Boulevard, Howard Beach; 718-641-3082

I have no idea if this has been there forever, but these newspaper boxes looked quite new and have sprouted up at nearly every corner around Little India.

Pakistani Post! and I love this use of the classic pizza guy in the restaurant ad. EGREGIOUS!

Love the coal-fired brick oven sicilian pie at Sac’s Place… yesterday, we devoured one with fresh mozzarella, pepperoni, and crumbled meatballs.

I am a tireless advocate the Sicilian slice at Astoria’s Rose & Joe’s Italian Bakery, on 31st Street near Ditmars. It’s not the absolute best Sicilian I’ve ever had, but it’s certainly a notch or two above average. It’s got a flavorful sauce and plenty of crunchy bits of cheese at the edges — especially if you get a corner. I prefer it room temperature, with a few shakes each of Parmesan, red pepper flakes, and oregano. 22-40 31st Street, Astoria NY 11105 (map); 718-721-9422
