Just in time for Mother’s Day, here’s one of my favorite artists, Blanca Narvaez of Tropisec, showing off her dried fruit boxes at last week’s Queens Taste. Find her humble, pretty creations at tropisec.com and frequently at Queens craft and food markets.

Comic Book Heaven has been in business for decades but the time has come to deny the rent. Therefore the one-month’s notice is in effect and they are having the major sell-off.

Open Fridays and Saturdays throughout August and then they are gone. It’s a sign of the times.

5 Pointz is truly the mecca of hip hop culture.

This past Saturday, it was on full display - with artists doing their craft,  tourists taking pictures, and a good ol’ breakdance competition.

And if you are not yet privy, the site is set to be put down in favor of real estate development. Read about the contention everywhere.

Here’s Sarah Feldman, Ridgewood extra-ordinaire. She is putting together the Ridgewood Market later this month, which consists of artisanal vendors and their ilk. She also turned me onto Ridgewood Social - which helps turn this lonely city a little littler. She’s funkdafying the neighborhood. The mediator between the Queens and the Brooklyn is the Ridgewood!
See you at the Market.

Great stuff by LIC Market, Alchemy BBQ, Ovelia, Canton Gourmet, and Arrogant Swine at last night’s Summerbeat by Edible Queens. Truly the upper crust of meat in NYC, not just Queens.

Hopefully there will be more just like it.

Here’s James Boo’s latest “1 Minute Meal”, getting a quick inside look at the legendary Lemon Ice King of Corona.

And here’s his accompanying full-scale article article by Boo, The Bocce Boys of Corona

You can head to the Lemon Ice King of Corona at 52-02 108th St, then walk across the street to William F. Moore AKA Spaghetti Park to see the boys playing bocce.
