Terraza is one of the coolest bars in Queens or anywhere else in NYC. This is last night with the Alex Brown Quartet, playing on the suspended platform above the bar. Just about every night of the week has something awesome going on, from Latin jazz or folk to readings of a sort. You’ll dig.

Queens Kickshaw 9:20 p.m. Friday. A blurry Benjamin Sandler unloads what is surely Astoria’s only tuk-tuk in front of his grilled cheese emporium as a jazz combo plays in the background.

As far as I’m concerned Rockaway Beach has two unofficial mascots: the toothy mosaic-covered Whaleamina and Simon, a hepcat who strums his bass fiddle to the tinkling of Thelonius Monk while surfers do their thing and bathing beauties stroll by. Seeing and hearing this cat with a fiddle on the boardwalk made my jazz loving heart well up with Queens love.
