The Shady Lady started brunch service on Saturdays and Sundays from 11-4 pm… and I predict a line out the door within a few weeks of word getting out.  Behold this chicken biscuit… a homemade buttermilk biscuit with gorgeously crispy fried chicken, strips of bacon, melted cheddar, and yes, a slathering of country-style sausage gravy…  what!?!?!  The whole brunch menu is kinda sorta off the charts.  For $20 you can also add unlimited brunch cocktails.  The Shady Lady * 34-19 30th Ave, Astoria * 718-440-9081

The Queens Kickshaw introduces its brand new “egg-centric” brunch starting today!  Be sure to check out the outrageously inventive and delicious dishes, like these cold-poached eggs… an umami benedict with miso butter and pickled mustard seed “caviar” on cranberry walnut toast.  Brunch will be served Saturdays and Sundays from 9 to 4…  The Queens Kickshaw | 40-17 Broadway, Astoria | http://www.thequeenskickshaw.com/

I’ll try to hold off on posting about Queens Comfort so much, but the team there just keeps releasing some incredible new dishes.  For brunch this weekend, a cup of Pale Ale Beer Cheese Soup loaded with bacon, and topped with croutons, cheese, and a drizzle of chive oil.  They also made their own cranberry sausage breakfast patties, served as a killer benedict on toasted English muffin with hollandaise.  Happy Birthday to owner and culinary wiz, Donnie D’Alessio!!! Indulged this weekend in Sage General Store’s Bacon Brunch.  Everything’s pork-tastic, from the Bacon Grilled Cheese with Tomato Basil Goat Cheese Soup, to bacon breakfast pizzas, even cheddar biscuits with bacon marmalade.  But the star is definitely this double chocolate bacon brownie with Jack Daniels whipped cream.  Goodness! It’s a wee bit off the beaten path, but oh so worth a visit (on a regular basis).  Brunch at Fatty’s is truly unique, especially with the back patio open.  Like unwinding at a Caribbean beach hut, sip mojitos or their mint limeade (with tiny specks of fresh mint) and devour their take on mofongo, a dome of mashed plantain with onions and crisp pancetta, stuffed with a molten filling of queso fresco.  The huevos rancheros is outstanding, with soft-centered eggs cloaked in fresh tortillas and a peppery but delicate sauce. You simply have to try the deliciously inventive brunch menu at Leng Thai, fusing Thai and Korean dishes with American brunch classics.  A prime example is the Pad Thai Kai Haw, a paper thin omelet stuffed with shrimp pad thai—best enjoyed in their outdoor backyard cafe.  Leng Thai * 33-09 Broadway, Astoria * (718) 956-7117 * http://lengthainewyork.com/

The Jumbo 32 oz. Bloody Mary at Bear is one of the best brunch cocktails I’ve found, made with organic vegetable and tomato juice, premium vodka, and crowned with marinated mushrooms, onions, capers, pickles, olives, hot peppers, a hard-boiled egg, and candied bacon. Bear, 12-14 31st Ave, Long Island City; (917) 396-4939; http://www.bearnyc.com/

Sugar Freak's gumbo, muffuletta, and crawfish boudin balls are mouthwatering, but the N'Awlins-inspired brunch items are some serious comfort eats… Fried Chicken & Waffles topped with Bananas Foster, a fried chicken sandwich stacked with Louisiana mac 'n cheese, or eggs benedict with tasso ham and fried oysters under cajun hollandaise.  Sugar Freak, 36-18 30th Ave, Astoria; (718) 726-5850; http://sugarfreak.com
